Migration- The movement of persons from one country or locality to another.
Ellis Island- an island in upper new york bay.
Angel Island- state park in california.
Assimilation- people of different backrounds come to see them selves as part of a larger national family.
Political Asylum- provided by one nation to refugee.
Tenant Building-its an appartment building.
Refugee-a person who flees for refuge or safety.
Alien-a resident born in or belonging to another country who had not acquired citizenship by naturalization.
Citizen- a person owing loyalty to and entitled by birth or naturalization to the protextion of a state or nation.

Your second task is to create a time line for your basic background knowledge of the history of US Immigration. This time line will help you generalize the period of immigration and a sort of idea of important dates of high level of immigration called "immigration waves."
-Individually, students will investigate American immigration and create a timeline using Power Point and wikispaces.
-The timeline will need to include at least 8 important dates relevant to American immigration from 1850-1960. 6 of the dates need to be times when large waves of different groups of people immigrated.
-After you completed your timeline you need to briefly explain why this date was important to conclude. This writing can be done within Power Point.

Find 5 or more pictures that show the lives of immigrants in history or in present day US. Google search specific immigrants images and identify them for me. In a paragraph below write a reflection on comparing your life with theirs. Do you think you could pick up and leave your home country for a new one? Just think on it while you look at those pictures you just collected and write down your thoughts. Friendly Letter Home

This letter must be written in first person, so you must actually act like your this person writing back home. Tell them what the trip over was like, experience in Ellis Island, and tell them what you are currently doing for work and what its like living in America as an immigrant.
